PTB City News Kapurthala : In a resounding success against narcotics and organized crime, Kapurthala Police has significantly disrupted drug supply chains and maintained robust law and order throughout 2025. Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora highlighted these achievements during a year-end press conference at Police Lines Kapurthala, declaring that the district police had “broken the backbone of drug smugglers” through relentless operations under the state-wide “Yudh Nashya Virudh” campaign.
. .The force registered 1,125 NDPS cases and arrested 1,424 accused, achieving a remarkable 92% conviction rate through vigorous court prosecutions. Substantial quantities of narcotics were recovered, including 14.845 kg heroin, 463.599 kg poppy husk, 12.983 kg opium, 2 kg ganja, 0.065 kg ice (methamphetamine), 1.407 kg narcotic powder,
.516 green poppy plants, and 72,086 narcotic tablets/capsules, along with Rs 7.84 lakh in drug money. Assets worth Rs 18.42 crores acquired through the drug trade were frozen, and 54 accused were arrested in 36 commercial quantity NDPS cases. Acting on 1,324 public tip-offs via the Safe Punjab helpline resulted in 479 FIRs and 570 arrests. SSP Toora emphasized the dual focus on breaking supply lines and rehabilitating victims, with 701 drug addicts admitted to de-addiction centers.

.Significant achievements were also made against serious crimes and organized gangs as well. The police traced 16 out of 17 murder cases, making 45 arrests, while 62 arrests were affected in 42 attempt-to-murder cases. In 24 robbery cases, 40 arrests led to the recovery of Rs 18.89 lakh, and Rs 27.69 lakh was recovered in a bank robbery case.
.A major cybercrime operation resulted in 42 arrests and recovery of over Rs 2.15 crores, including cash, 40 laptops, and 68 mobile phones. Fifteen out of 19 extortion/threat cases were resolved with 12 arrests. Under the Arms Act, 21 cases saw 35 arrests and the seizure of 38 pistols (including five foreign-made Glocks), six revolvers, and 146 cartridges. Additionally, 28 gangsters involved in organized crime were arrested, with weapons and vehicles recovered.
.Kapurthala Police also adopted a people-friendly approach, resolving public complaints swiftly via the 112 helpline, where 6,041 complaints were received and 4,920 disposed of in an average of 11 minutes. Strict traffic enforcement led to 28,094 challans and collection of Rs 1.85 crores in fines. In the fight against illicit liquor, 143 cases were registered, 143 accused arrested, and 20 lakh ml liquor along with 15,145 kg lahan recovered. During district floods, the police provided critical assistance in evacuating residents and distributing relief materials.
.Praising the dedication of officers and staff, SSP Toora outlined priorities for 2026 that include complete eradication of drugs, enhanced rehabilitation for addicts, and even faster grievance redressal. SP Gurpreet Singh, SP Prabhjot Singh Virk, and other senior officers were also present on the occasion.
