PTB Big News Jalandhar / Chandigarh : As Russian President Vladimir Putin arrives in India for a two-day state visit and meets Prime Minister Narendra Modi, former Cabinet Minister and MLA Pargat Singh has urged the Government of India to raise a deeply concerning humanitarian issue — that of Punjabi youth misled into joining the Russian army under false pretenses.

Reports indicate that several young men from Punjab, who were promised employment opportunities, were instead coerced or deceived into participating in the ongoing Russia–Ukraine conflict. At least five individuals have tragically lost their lives, while several others remain missing or untraceable.
Pargat Singh has strongly appealed to Prime Minister Modi and the Ministry of External Affairs to take up this matter with President Putin during the current high-level talks. He emphasized the need for urgent intervention to ensure the safe return of all Indian nationals — particularly from Punjab — who have been unwittingly or forcefully recruited into the Russian forces.

“The families of these youths are living in unbearable distress, awaiting information about their loved ones. The Government of India must demand concrete details from Russian authorities and secure their repatriation at the earliest,” said Pargat Singh.
He further stated that India should convey in clear terms that the exploitation of Indian citizens, especially its youth, in foreign conflicts is unacceptable and goes against all humanitarian principles. “This is a moment for India to speak with responsibility, compassion, and firmness,” he added.
