SSP Gaurav Toora urges prompt reporting of lost phones to improve recovery chances
PTB News Kapurthala : In a major citizen-centric initiative, the Kapurthala Police recovered 250 lost mobile phones worth over Rs 50 lakh and returned them to their rightful owners during a function held at the Police Lines here on Tuesday.
The recovered handsets included premium and mid-range brands such as Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, Vivo, Oppo, Redmi, Realme and Xiaomi. The devices had been traced from different districts of Punjab as well as several other states through sustained technical efforts by the Cyber Crime Cell.
Handing over the recovered phones, Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gaurav Toora said the successful recovery was made possible through technical surveillance and the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) system, which enables investigators to trace mobile phones using their unique IMEI numbers.
The SSP urged citizens to immediately report the loss of their mobile phones at the nearest Saanjh Kendra. He said people could also report lost devices and track the recovery status through the CEIR Portal. Citizens may also approach the Cyber Crime Cell, Kapurthala, for any assistance related to lost mobile phones.
SSP emphasised that prompt reporting and IMEI-based tracking considerably enhance the chances of recovering lost devices while also preventing their misuse. He also commended the efforts of cyber cell of Kapurthala Police for making sincere efforts in tracking the lost phones.
The mobile owners expressed gratitude after receiving their lost mobile phones and thanked the Kapurthala Police for its dedicated efforts and prompt action in tracing and returning their valuable belongings.
